Energy Loss Assessment and Audit

In 2027, large enterprises will once again be required to carry out their mandatory energy audit, which must be conducted every four years. An audit represents a comprehensive energy assessment, the results of which provide detailed information to management about energy-saving and optimization opportunities. An energy audit also lays the foundation for development projects and the implementation of the ISO 50001 Energy Management System.

During the energy assessment (audit), we analyze energy consumption and related costs associated with buildings, technological processes, and transport activities in accordance with the methodology set out in the MSZ EN 16247-1-4 standard. We prepare specific energy performance indicators and make recommendations for energy-saving opportunities, supported by payback calculations.

New Elements – Preparation of an Implementation Plan and Publication Obligation

It is no longer sufficient to simply “tick the box” and complete the energy audit; the findings and recommendations must now be meaningfully addressed. The legislation has introduced the concept of an implementation plan, which must include technically and economically feasible steps and measures developed on the basis of the audit results and recommendations.

The plan must be submitted to the managing director or executive officer of the company; it does not need to be submitted to the authorities.

Another new requirement is public disclosure: an annual report must be prepared on the implementation plans and the rate of implementation of the recommendations. This report must be published on the company’s website by March 31 of the year following the reporting year.

Legal Obligation or Business Opportunity?

For many company executives, the mandatory audit is merely an administrative burden to be checked off. We see it as a business advantage:

  • It reveals hidden costs, overspending, and risks
  • It optimizes production and operational processes
  • It enhances the company’s market credibility

The audit is not a burden — let it become your competitive advantage!

What do we offer in the frame of an energy auditing process?

1.

During an on-site visit we assess the production processes, equipments, tools, energy supply system, metering and sub-metering points.

2.

In cooperation with our client, we collect and analyse data, documents and conduct in-depth interviews with the experts responsible for the operation and technological processes of the company or property.

3.

We prepare an audit report and an executive summary, which will be presented to the management and colleagues responsible for the area, thinking together about the most cost-effective improvement options, helping to formulate a short as well as a longer-term strategy.

The following areas will be investigated:

the condition and efficiency of building engineering systems
architectural energy efficiency improvement options for buildings
possibilities of replacement of natural gas-based mechanical systems in the building, in technological units
energy flows in technological processes and the production of waste energy and it’s potential utilisation
the possibility of utilisation of renewable energy sources (solar energy, heat pumps, geothermal energy)
financial assessment by examining return on investment, complemented by financial sensitivity analysis

Since 2016, as an energy auditor organization registered with the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH) and holding an official energy audit license, we have been supporting large enterprises in this field since the introduction of Act LVII of 2015 on Energy Efficiency.

Our team of experts prepares the assessment together with experienced auditors specialized in the relevant areas and develops the corresponding improvement plans. By analyzing payback periods and complementing them with financial sensitivity analyses, we support reliable financial planning.

During our comprehensive advisory services, we always examine available tax allowances, grant opportunities, financing options, and, upon request, the possibilities offered by the Energy Efficiency Obligation Scheme (EKR).

Energy audit for Large Enterprises - Technology, Buildings, Transport

The energy audit provides detailed information to management on energy-saving and optimization opportunities and supports the preparation of development projects and the implementation of the ISO 50001 system. During the assessment, we analyze energy consumption and costs related to buildings, technological processes, and transport activities, determine specific energy performance indicators, and identify potential energy cost savings.

When Does the Cost of the Audit Pay Off?

Based on our experience, in cases where there is no dedicated energy specialist within the company, or where no energy review has been conducted in recent years, we are able to identify significant immediate savings opportunities. In such cases, the audit fee typically pays for itself almost immediately.

Completion time

The assessment generally takes 20–30 working days, depending on the availability and quality of the provided data.

Trust and guarantee

What if your company is not legally required to conduct an audit?

Our company has been an energy auditing organization accredited by the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority since 2015.
We hold professional liability insurance covering energy audits.

Many believe that loss-exploration audits are only relevant for large enterprises and companies obligated under the 10 TJ threshold. However, it can be stated that growing SMEs can also benefit significantly from such an assessment.

A thorough voluntary audit:

  • Reveals hidden financial advantages
  • Optimizes processes
  • Opens the door to grant opportunities
  • Increases company value
